Parents Recreate Blockbuster At Home For Autistic Son After Local Store Closes

Every now and then, we hear a story about a parent that has exhausted all resources and turns to the internet in a desperate attempt to source a discontinued piece of clothing, impossible to source dolls, and most recently, a sippy cup that happened to be the only cup an autistic boy would drink out of. It's these little things that keep some children safe from having meltdowns or panic attacks because they no longer have access to the things that kept them happy.
According to the United Kingdom's National Autistic Society, and as anyone who is close to a person with autism will know, people with the condition are prone to meltdowns. "It is not bad or naughty behaviour and should not be considered as such," their website explains. "When a person is completely overwhelmed, and their condition means it is difficult to express that in appropriate way, it is understandable that the result is a meltdown."
So some parents are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to make sure their kids are fully taken care of. In this particular case it involved a well known video rental store than many of us know doesn't really exist anymore: Blockbuster. It may come as a surprise, but there's still a few Blockbusters left in the world. One of them happens to be in south Texas, where Twitter user Javier Zuniga lives. He and his brother, who has autism, were loyal customers until it finally shut down on Sunday, an event which upset Zuniga's brother.
So in what may be the greatest parenting decision this year, their parents decided to create a Blockbuster at home, stocked with their son's favorite movies. Pretty cool.
